What's Good in Niagara? U.S. neighbours holding 'Elbows Up' rally in support of Canada

Rally in support of Canada to start at 5:00pm Wednesday

The term 'Elbows Up' is one that's spread like wildfire across Canada in recent weeks, as it's used to show perseverance in the face of tariff talks and 51st state rhetoric from U.S. President Donald Trump.

The phrase, which gets its roots from hockey, generally means to protect oneself or prepare to fight back - which many Canadians have been doing by supporting local products in their shopping since tariff discussions started ramping up in January.

The terminology is starting to catch on stateside as well, as a group from Buffalo is holding an 'Elbows Up for Canada' rally tomorrow (Wednesday) to show support for Canadians.

Co-Organizer Michael Powers says as someone who lives so close to the border, he doesn't like what he's heard from President Trump.

The rally will be held at the Shoreline Trail Bridge in Buffalo, where a group of American citizens are expected to gather and show support. North of the border, a group is expected to form at Mather Park in Fort Erie - with both visible to one another.

Powers says this will be a sign of unity.

Outside of residents, politicians on both sides of the border in Niagara and Buffalo have also been vocal about many of the tariffs proposed by Trump. Powers says he's reached out to a few to attend, but is happy to see the formation of the 'Niagara 8', which sees municipalities from both sides of the border working together.

The 'Elbows Up for Canada' rally is set to start at 5:00pm Wednesday evening. For more information, you can visit the organizer's website.
