The RONA Foundation has kicked off the third edition of its Home Sweet Home campaign, running until October 12. RONA stores across Canada will collect donations to support nearly 150 local non-profits. Funds will aid victims of domestic violence, low-income families, and people with disabilities or mental health challenges.
Moffat and Powell RONA in Tillsonburg is an independent location, but not to be outdone by their corporate counterparts, they have launched their own initiative called Hammering Hope. We asked assistant store manager Vikki Taylor why they chose to step up.
Staff was asked where they would like to see the money raised go and they held a vote to decide which organization would receive their donation.
Taylor said it was important to the staff to keep the donation local and there was overwhelming support for the public school snack program to help students in need.
Fundraising began September 1 and continues until October 11, with a variety of community events to support the cause. Visitors can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes such as a generator, a Milwaukee heated jacket, or an electric barbecue. The store is also running a bottle drive, inviting people to drop off empty bottles and cans for donation. A silent auction featuring items donated by local businesses will take place from September 22 to October 5. To close out the month, an in-store bake sale will be held September 29 and 30, with all proceeds benefiting the fundraiser. Taylor says she is especially excited for this Friday night’s event.
They will be screening the new Lilo and Stitch and everyone is invited to come out. Hammering Hope is sure to have a local impact in Tillsonburg.
