Suspect was arrested on April 23
A Niagara-based Chartered Professional Accountant has been charged following a fraud investigation.
Niagara Regional Police say they were contacted earlier this year by a commercial business that had hired Justin Jay Tax Accounting and Advisory Services.
The company, which has chosen to remain anonymous, became suspicious of irregularities and brought in an independent third party to review the matter.
Following that review, the business contacted police.
As a result of the investigation, 44-year-old Cherrel Monton-Matsugu was arrested on April 23.
She has been charged with fraud over $5,000, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, altering a document with intent to defraud, and criminal breach of trust.
Monton-Matsugu has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 21.
