Public health officials warn of ticks as weather gets warmer

Symptoms of Lyme disease can take 3 to 30 days to appear

As the weather warms up and outdoor activities pick up, Niagara Region Public Health is reminding everyone that tick season has arrived.

Black-legged ticks, known to carry Lyme disease and other illnesses are common in forested areas, tall grass, and even backyard spaces.

To stay safe, take simple precautions like wearing long sleeves, using bug spray, and checking for ticks after spending time outside.

Symptoms of Lyme disease can show up between 3 and 30 days after a bite and may include fever, fatigue, or a distinctive circular rash. If you notice any of these signs, be sure to contact your healthcare provider.
