Festive RIDE stop leads to drug and flight charges in Tillsonburg

Local police officers continue to monitor the streets in order to keep them safe

Two individuals are facing multiple charges after fleeing a festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere program in Tillsonburg.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, officers with the Oxford OPP Detachment were conducting a RIDE check on Broadway Street on December 20th, at around 8:30 p.m. Police say a vehicle was seen driving erratically before speeding away from the checkpoint.

Officers located the vehicle a short time later and safely conducted a traffic stop.

Jamal Blenman, 24, of Hamilton, was arrested and charged with trafficking in a Schedule I substance (opioid other than heroin), flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation, and seven counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody.

Abdel-Rahman Maradqeh, 20, of Oakville, was also charged with trafficking in a Schedule I substance. He was released and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock on January 20th.

Police seized suspected oxycodone, along with a scale, packaging materials, and Canadian currency. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
