It's great to share memories - but do so safely
As students return to class, Ontario Provincial Police are reminding parents to be cautious about what they share online.
Back-to-school photos may be a tradition, but oversharing can put children at risk. Police advise avoiding details such as school names, logos, or signs in the background, as well as after-school activities, team affiliations, or personal information like a child’s name, age, or grade.
Even small details — like bus numbers or street names — can reveal more than intended. OPP warn that even on private accounts, images can still be saved, shared, or copied.
Parents are encouraged to continue capturing those first-day-of-school memories, but to do so in ways that protect their child’s privacy and safety.
