Oxford County draft budget projects 5% levy increase

County services drive levy increase

With the second County Council draft budget session coming up on Monday (Nov 24th) Warden Marcus Ryan talked to us about the bill ratepayers may face based on the current draft budget.

When we asked Ryan how he thinks a five percent increase will sit with ratepayers - especially since that's above the consumer price index, the Warden says inflation at the County level is a different beast.

Ryan notes there are also services the county delivers like paramedics, long-term care and homelessness - services that account for about 3 percent of the draft budget increase.  These are services Ryan says residents have told council that they want to county to continue and / or increase investment in.

Warden Ryan says Oxford County's draft budget also addresses several new initiatives including road safety.

In advance of this Monday's second Council meeting on the draft budget, Warden Ryan urges ratepayers to be informed.

Oxford County council's scheduled budget approval date is December 10th.
