Warden of Oxford County looks back on AMO conference
The recent Association of Municipalities Ontario conference was a prime opportunity for civic leaders to meet with decision makers at the upper levels of government.
Zorra Township Mayor and Oxford County Warden Marcus Ryan had some key takeaways from the conference.
Warden Ryan calls the AMO meetings a stepping stone towards getting better policies and funding.
When asked about issues and their order of importance, Ryan said the most acute need is homelessness prevention plan funding.
Ryan says the number of people who are actively homeless in Oxford County has increased slightly which reflects what's happening across Ontario.
While more money for the homelessness prevention plan would be helpful, Ryan says the county does have to make the most of what's currently available.
Ryan says keeping the level of funding static each year won't lead to a better situation but at least the money is still flowing so it's a matter of saying thank you and working together with the province to make it better.
