Upper Thames River Conservation Authority remains at Level One water conditions

A very dry summer in southern Ontario has trigger much worse conditions in other areas.

A very dry summer in southern Ontario has triggered low water conditions in various locations.

Thanks to better precipitation levels than many areas, Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is only at Level One meaning there are no consumption restrictions in place.

But Conservation Authority Communications and Marketing coordinator Eleanor Heagy tells us the agriculture sector is noticing.

Heagy says low water conditions can also affect wells.

Heagy notes aquatic life in smaller waterways can be at risk especially if they can't relocate.

Heagy notes native mussel species, smaller vertebrae and insects that fish eat can also be affected.

As we approach fall and winter, Heagy says hopefully there's a turnaround otherwise certain trees could be affected too.

When trees are under stress they can be more vulnerable to disease and insects. Heagy says best case scenario .... we have a rainy fall and everything bounces back to normal.
